Men's Golf Closes O'Briant Jensen Memorial in Fifth Place

The Emory University men's golf team concluded the 36-hole O'Briant Jensen Memorial tournament in fifth place out of 18 teams on Tuesday afternoon. The tournament was played on the 6,755-yard, par-71 Sedgefield-Dye course in Greensboro, NC.

The No. 1 ranked Eagles notched a score of 589 (292-297) to finish in fifth and four strokes out of a podium finish. Of the 18 teams that competed seven of them were ranked in the top 25 with the most notable being No. 2 Methodist, No. 5 Christopher Newport and No. 6 Carnegie Mellon. At tournament's end the Captains of Christopher Newport emerged victorious, carding a 568 (285-283) while Methodist (576) and No. 13 Guilford (585) rounded out the podium.

After ending the first round tied with teammate Josh Qian, sophomore Michael Burry pulled ahead on day two scoring a two-under par 69 to bring his 36-hole total to 141 (72-69). Burry's performance earned him a sixth place finish and marks the fourth consecutive tournament to open the year that Burry has played in where he has led the team in scoring. Qian (72-77) and junior Jackson Klutznick (75-74) finished the tournament knotted up, each posting a final score of 149 to end up tied for 23rd. Junior Michael Rosenbloom finished just behind Qian and Klutznick with a final tally of 150 (73-77) to tie him for 29th. Sophomore Tony Li rounded out scoring for the Eagles with a 157 (78-79) which slotted him in a 59th place tie.  

Sophomore Prayaag Oruganti, competing as an individual, improved on his first round score by four strokes to finish with a score of 158 (81-77) and tie him for 67th on the overall leaderboard. 

This tournament marks the conclusion of the Eagles fall competition and they will take a fourth month hiatus before returning to action on March 6th for the 54-hole Savannah Invitational.
