Matthew Schner Voted to D3hoops.com All-America First Team

Emory University men's basketball senior Matthew Schner added one more accolade to his growing list of achievements this month as he was named one of the five best players in the country according to D3hoops.com.

The organization tabbed Schner to the All-America First Team Saturday evening, making him the first player in Emory men's or women's basketball history to earn First Team honors from D3hoops.com. This is the 25th season D3hoops.com has named All-America teams with their staff selecting players from nominees from the website's All-Region selections.

Schner is just the third Emory player ever in school history to earn D3hoops.com All-America honors, joining Jake Davis and Alex Foster. Davis was a Second Team pick in 2014 while Foster was a Third Team selection a season later.

This announcement comes on the heels of a busy week on the awards front for the Boca Raton, FL native, as last week he garnered a bevy of national acclaim: NABC All-America Second Team and All-District First Team; CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team and D3hoops.com All-Region First Team.

In addition, Schner is a finalist for two major National Player of the Year awards: The Jostens Trophy, which is handed to the top Division III player and the Bevo Francis Award, which honors players from across NCAA Division II and III, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA. Announcements on both award winners are scheduled for the coming weeks.

Schner led Emory to its ninth straight NCAA tournament berth, the longest active streak in the nation, following a third consecutive UAA championship. Schner averaged 23.5 points per game, 8.7 rebounds per game and 3.6 assists per game for an Eagles squad that won 20 games for the fourth season in a row.

He set the single-season program record with 611 points, breaking the record on his final made field goal of the season against Wabash as part of his first-career triple-double. Furthermore, Schner joined the 1,000-point club in the UAA opener in early January and finished the season with 1,390 points, putting him sixth in Emory team history.

Schner joins Randolph-Macon's Buzz Anthony, Wabash's Jack Davidson, Yeshiva' Ryan Turell and Illinois Wesleyan's Matthew Leritz on the outlet's First Team. A total of 25 players were honored across five All-America Teams. For the full list of D3hoops.com All-America picks, please click here.
