Kyle Veator, Shane Sullivan Win Event Titles on Day One of UAA Indoor Championships

Senior Kyle Veator and junior Shane Sullivan captured UAA titles to lead the Emory University Men's Track and Field team on day one of the UAA Indoor Championships held at Brandeis University. Through one day of action, the Eagles sit in second place with 37 points trailing first place Carnegie Mellon by just 2.33 points.

Veator claimed the top spot in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 6.86m while Sullivan also notched a new PR in the 5000m in a time of 14:50.13. Adding All-UAA honors for the Eagles on day one was junior Charlie Hu who also medaled in the long jump, finishing second with a career-best mark of 6.70m.

In other event finals, senior Lukas Mees came in fourth in the 5000m Run at 15:04.92, sophomore Zachary Lembersky placed sixth in the weight throw with a PR of 14.45m and the Distance Medley Relay of senior Michael McBane, juniors Robert Wilhelm III, Max Brown and freshman Samuel Branson finished fourth in a time of 10:23.81.

During the preliminaries, the Eagles saw four athletes qualify for the event finals on Sunday. In the 55m Dash, junior Jasper Rubin-Sigler (6.52) and Veator (6.56) posted the top two times to advance to the finals. Veator added a time of 22.78 in the 200m Dash, the sixth best prelim time. Junior Benjamin Rogin turned in the top time in the 55m Hurdles at 7.44 while freshman Aria Mohseni qualified in the 400m Dash in a time of 50.85.

Day two of the UAA Indoor Championships begin at 10:00 AM with women's shot put and continue throughout the day until the men's and women's 4x400m Relays at 2:05 PM.
