The Emory  men's cross country team came through with a fine showing Saturday afternoon at the Gibson Family NCAA Division III Pre-National Meet in Terre Haute, Indiana, recording a seventh-place finish out of 30 teams. 

The Eagles finished the competition with 245 points.   Taking home the No. 1 spot with 77 points was No. 21-ranked Claremont-Mudd Scripps while No. 12 Augustana was runner-up with 98 points.   Wabash (160 pts.) came in third while No. 20 Johns Hopkins held down the No. 4 spot with 166 points.  McKendree rounded out the top five (210 pts.) with No. 31 Loras capturing sixth place with 213 points.

Junior Eddie Mulder (Pompano Beach, FL) spearheaded the team's effort, covering the 8K course in a personal-best time of 25:48, good for ninth-place in the 376-runner field.   Freshman Lukas Mees (Marian, IA) clocked a season-best effort of 26:18, placing 35th overall, while senior Stephen Ellwood crossed the finish line at 26:39 that ranked him 56th.  Rounding out Eagles' scorers were junior Alex Fleischhacker (San Diego, CA) with a showing a 26:52 (70th) and junior Hank Ashforth (Whitehouse Station, NJ), whose time of 27:02 was 75th overall.

On Friday, Emory sent a contingent of runners to the Jacksonville State University Foothills Invitational in Oxford, Alabama, where the Eagles came away with a fifth-place effort out of 10 teams.   Emory concluded the competition with 137 points and was led by sophomore Tyler Cooke (Atlanta, GA) who turned in an 8K time of 27:02, good for the No. 8 spot out of 67 entries.  Sophomore Hirsh Gaikwad (Naperville, IL) was the next Emory runner to finish with his outing of 27:52 25th overall.

Emory returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 13) when it runs at the Berry College Southeastern Classic.
