Sharon Mun & Ellen Dong Named WGCA All-Americans; Futcher Tabbed as Regional Coach of the Year

Emory University sophomores Sharon Mun and Ellen Dong were honored as 2023 All-Americans Wednesday night at the WGCA student-athlete banquet that took place during the NCAA Championships in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.

Mun was one of nine players to be selected to the WGCA All-America First Team whereas Dong was one of 11 chosen to the Second Team. This marks the second straight year both Mun and Dong were selected to their respective All-America teams. Furthermore, the second-year duo were tabbed to the Southeast All-Region Team, as was Head Coach Katie Futcher who earned her second consecutive Regional Coach of the Year award.

Fresh off their selections to the All-UAA First Team earlier this week, Mun and Dong steered the Eagles to another stellar showing at the NCAA Championships. Behind their play at the top two positions, Emory placed fifth in the team standings as a sequel to their national championship run in 2022. Mun's strong sophomore season featured two medalist performances and UAA Tournament MVP honors. She concluded the NCAA Championships as Emory's top performer, tying for 12th individually. For Dong, she earned four different top-5 finishes and was named to the UAA All-Tournament team. At nationals, she tied for 17th following a 77 score in her final round on Friday.

Futcher adds another honor to her growing mantle as she was one of five regional coach of the year selections. Earlier this week, she picked up UAA Coaching Staff of the Year honors after guiding the Eagles to their second consecutive UAA championship and a No. 1 ranking for a majority of the 2022-23 season. The fifth place finish at the NCAA Championships is the third top-7 showing for the Eagles at nationals under Futcher's leadership.
