ACADEMIC SUCCESS

Emory student-athletes cumulative GPA’s are generally higher the student body.

Academic excellence is demonstrated by Emory student-athletes - the university has been awarded 97 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships over the school's history, with the 80 awarded since 2000 the second-highest total by any NCAA member (DI, DII and DIII).

Emory student-athletes have distinguished themselves on the academic front.  A total of 161 student-athletes have been selected as CoSIDA Academic All-Americans since 1983-84.  Since the fall of 2000, the Eagles have earned 111 CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, topping all non-football playing institutions.

Emory faculty and staff are great resources for student-athletes.  Emory student-athletes are encouraged to get to know their professors.  Student-athletes will represent the University in many different ways, both on campus and throughout the country.  Partnerships are built in this manner and will serve the student-athletes well.

Charles Howard Candler Professor of Psychology

"I can always identify the student athletes in my classes, even before they hand in those familiar coach's letters informing faculty about upcoming absences due to road trips. These student-athletes are focused; they are goal oriented; they are, without exception, polite and appreciative. They invariably do well despite the extra load they carry through their commitment to their sports. They never complain; they work hard and rise above difficulties. They seem to see little difference between what it takes to succeed in the classroom versus the playing field. They are correct in this, but based on my contacts with alumni student-athletes, one could add to these two venues, life itself."

Assistant Professor, Pediatrics, Faculty Athletics Representative

“As the current Faculty Athletics Representative and Chair of the Athletics and Recreation Committee, it has been my privilege to meet and interact with the student-athletes at Emory and I have been extremely impressed.  The students are not only high achievers in their chosen sports but also demonstrate a similar commitment to academics, often achieving similar high marks in their classes.  In addition, the community service that the student-athletes do shows the depth of their character.  The dedication and singular focus that it takes to be both a high achieving athlete as well as an excellent student and outstanding member of the community are the characteristics that will serve them well as they proceed through their college career and beyond.”
