    Emory University senior Ross Spock won three events and set five school records at the 2014 NCAA Division III Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana, helping the Eagles to a third-place finish. Spock tied for first place in the 100-yard backstroke, winning the National Title with a school-record time of 47.62 seconds, just six-hundredths of a second off the Division III record. It was the 13th individual National Championship in the program’s history, and the first ever by an Eagle in the 100-yard backstroke. He also claimed first-place finishes as the backstroke leg of both of Emory’s medley relays, helping the 200-yard medley relay to a win with a time of 1:28.16, and the 400-yard medley relay to a victory with a time of 3:15.13. Both relay times set new school records, and the 400-yard medley relay mark was just four hundredths of a second off the Division III record time. Spock was the runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle with a school-record time of 20.15 seconds, and finished in sixth place in the 200-yard backstroke after swimming a school-record time of 1:47.34 in the preliminaries. He added another runner-up finish as a part of the Eagles’ 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:20.96) and finished in 10th as a part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:01.16). Spock’s six all-America honors during the meet pushed his career total to 21, the most ever by an Eagle. He scored 80.5 of the team’s 246.5 points, as Emory finished in third-place at the NCAA Championships, the 13th top-three national finish in the program’s history.

    Emory University senior Jack Polisni recorded two NCAA ‘B’ cut times and two first-place finishes at the Midwest Invitational, hosted by the University of Chicago last Friday and Saturday. Polisini won the 400-yard individual medley with a ‘B’ cut time of 4:07.08. He also registered a provisional time in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing second with a mark of 2:06.24. On the first day of competition, Polisini captured an event win in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:54.18. His efforts helped the third-ranked Eagles to a team win at the meet, as the squad totaled 459.5 points.

    Emory University senior Ross Spock won a pair of individual events and was a part of four winning relays at last weekend’s University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, setting four new conference records in the process. Spock won the UAA Championship in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 49.38 seconds, a new UAA meet record, while also registering a win in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:49.67. He was a part of three conference record-setting relays as well, swimming the leadoff leg of the Eagles’ 200-yard medley relay (1:29.70) and 400-yard medley relay (3:18.18), and the anchor leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:21.91). Spock also won a conference title as the anchor leg of the Eagles’ 400-yard free relay (3:02.23) and won the ‘B’ final of the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.87 seconds. Spock’s performance helped the third-ranked Eagles win their 16th-consecutive UAA Championship.

    Emory University freshman Mitchell Cooper won all three events he swam in during Saturday’s dual meet victory over the University of the South. Cooper, claimed an individual win in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing first in the event with a time of 1:43.10. He also swam the backstroke leg of Emory’s winning 200-yard medley relay team, helping the squad to an overall time of 1:37.01 (including an individual split of 24.39 seconds) and the second leg of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay, with an overall time of 3:14.41 and an individual split of 47.68 seconds. Cooper accounted for 14.5 points on Saturday, helping the third-ranked Eagles to a 115-79 win over the University of the South.

    Emory University senior Ross Spock recorded a pair of first-place finishes and NCAA ‘B’ cut times during the third-ranked Eagles’ dual meet against NCAA Division I Georgia Tech on Saturday. Spock won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 50.40 seconds, good for an NCAA provisional mark. He also claimed a victory as a part of the Eagles’ 400-yard medley relay team, swimming the backstroke leg and helping the squad record a ‘B’ cut time of 3:22.56. Spock added a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.41 seconds, and another runner-up finish as a part of the Eagles’ 400-yard freestyle relay team, swimming the leadoff leg and helping the team notch a mark of 3:06.39. Spock accounted for 16.75 of the Eagles’ points during the day, as Emory fell by a score of 193-95 to the Yellow Jackets.

    Emory University sophomore Andrew Wilson opened the 2014 portion of the third-ranked Eagles schedule by notching first-place finishes and NCAA ‘B’ cut times in a pair of individual events during the team’s dual meet against Division II Florida Southern College on Friday. Wilson swept the breaststroke events, winning the 100-yard breaststroke with a ‘B’ cut time of 57.53 seconds, and followed with a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke with a provisional qualifying time of 2:06.57. He was also Emory’s top finisher in the 200-yard individual medley, claiming second in a time of 1:57.67, and was a part of the Eagles’ second-place 200-yard medley relay team with a mark of 1:33.94. Wilson accounted for 23 points during the meet, as Emory fell by a score of 165-97 to the Moccasins, the fourth-ranked NCAA Division II team.

    Emory University senior Ross Spock recorded three first-place finishes, seven top-three finishes and eight NCAA ‘B’ cut times during the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio last weekend. Spock won a pair of individual events, finishing first in the 100-yard backstroke (48.88 seconds) and the 50-yard freestyle (20.48 seconds) with ‘B’ cut times in each. He also swam the anchor leg of the Eagles’ winning 200-yard freestyle relay team, which finished in a provisional qualifying time of 1:21.28. Other individual ‘B’ cut times for Spock came from a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (45.29 seconds) and in a third-place finish in the preliminaries of the 200-yard backstroke (1:49.03). He added three more provisional times in relays, swimming the backstroke leg of the Eagles’ second-place 200-yard medley relay (1:29.03) and 400-yard medley relay (3:18.24) teams, and the anchor leg of the Eagles’ third-place 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:02.49). Spock accounted for 164.5 of the Eagles’ 1,293.5 points, helping the team to a fourth-place finish at the meet.

    Emory University sophomore Jared Scheuer recorded an NCAA ‘B’ cut time during the third-ranked Eagles’ dual meet against the University of Georgia, the sixth-ranked NCAA Division I team. Scheuer recorded a time of 1:53.01 in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing third in the event. The mark was the best this season by an Eagle in the event, and good for an NCAA provisional qualifying time. He also swam the backstroke leg of the Eagles’ 400-yard medley relay team, which finished seventh in a time of 3:36.08 (including a 53.78 split from Scheuer) and the third leg of Emory’s seventh-place 200-yard freestyle relay team, which recorded a mark of 1:30.42 (including a 22.86 split from Scheuer). Despite the performance from the sophomore, the Eagles dropped a 137-73 decision to the Bulldogs.

    Emory University sophomore Andrew Wilson won two events and recorded an NCAA ‘B’ cut time during the Eagles’ 99-77 win over the Savannah College of Art & Design on Friday. Wilson won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 57.66 seconds, the fastest time by an Eagle this season and good for an NCAA provisional qualifying time. He also placed first as part of the Eagles’ 200-yard medley relay team, which recorded a time of 1:34.48, including a 26.33-second breaststroke split from Wilson. The sophomore all-American rounded out the meet with a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.90 seconds. Wilson and the Eagles improved to 2-1 in dual meets this season with the win over SCAD on Friday.

    Emory University senior Ross Spock was a part of three winning efforts during the Eagles’ dual meet victory over Birmingham-Southern College on Saturday afternoon. Spock opened his day with a win in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing first with a time of 20.99 seconds. He followed that performance with a victory in the 200-yard backstroke in a mark of 1:55.30. The 15-time All-American rounded out the meet by swimming a 20.36 split as the anchor leg of the Eagles’ 200-yard freestyle relay, helping the team to a victory in a time of 1:24.77. Spock helped the Eagles to their first dual meet win of the season, leading the squad to a 135-106 win over the Panthers.

    Emory University sophomore Andrew Wilson won a pair of events during the Eagles’ dual meet at the NCAA Division I University of North Carolina – Wilmington on Saturday afternoon. Facing the higher-division competition, Wilson claimed a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.79 seconds, and followed with a win in the 200-yard breaststroke with a mark of 2:08.76. The reigning University Athletic Association (UAA) Rookie of the Year and two-time All-America certificate winner also finished second as a part of the Eagles’ 200-yard medley relay, which recorded a time of 1:34.31. Despite his performances during the day, Wilson and the Eagles fell to the Seahawks, 193-95.

    Emory University senior Jake Stephens won two individual events and was a part of two winning relays at the Blue-Gold Intrasquad on Friday afternoon. Swimming for the Blue team, Stephens claimed individual victories in both the 100-yard freestyle (48.12 seconds) and 200-yard freestyle (1:46.48). He also swam the breaststroke leg of the Eagles’ winning 200-yard medley relay (1:34.70) and the leadoff leg of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay (3:11.11). Stephens accounted for 23.5 points, helping lead the Blue team to a 161-99 win over the Gold team.
