Five from Women's Golf Named as WGCA Scholar All-Americans

The Emory University women's golf team was well-represented on the WGCA Scholar All-America team as announced by the organization earlier this month.

To be selected, a student-athlete must achieve an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher, be an amateur and on the team's roster through the conclusion of the team's season and have played in 50% of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year nominated through the team's conference championship.

Earning the honors for the Eagles in 2022-23 were rising seniors Mariana Chong and Irene Wang, rising juniors Ellen Dong and Sharon Mun, and rising sophomore Cindy Wang.

Dong and Mun were a force for the Eagles during their sophomore seasons as the duo secured WGCA All-America honors with Mun being one of nine players in the country to be tabbed to the First Team. Both golfers also earned spots on the Southeast All-Region squad and were All-UAA selections.

Both Irene and Cindy Wang followed Mun and Dong in the Eagles' lineup throughout the spring, helping the team capture a second straight UAA championship as well as a fifth place showing at the NCAA Championships. Mun led the team with a 73.4 scoring average with Dong checking in at 74.6. I. Wang finished third on the team at 75.8 with C. Wang finishing at 79.4.

For Chong, she competed in nine rounds across four tournaments, shooting 77.7 with a season low two-round score of 148 coming at the MCC Intercollegiate in September.

For Chong, this marks her third straight Scholar All-America selection while this is the second career honor for Wang, Dong and Mun. C. Wang earns her first career honor following a strong rookie campaign.
