(Baseball) Emory University sophomore Mike Bitanga allowed just one run over five and a third innings last week, spanning two relief outings. Bitanga pitched a scoreless eighth inning during an 11-7 loss to NCAA Division II North Georgia College and State University, allowing a hit and a walk and striking out a batter.
(Baseball – Hitter) Emory University sophomore Andrew DeYoung hit .300 (six-for-20) with a home run, two stolen bases and a team-high six RBIs during four games for the Eagles last week. During a 13-9 win over Oglethorpe University on Tuesday, DeYoung went three-for-five with two stolen bases and a walk, in addition to scoring a run in the game.
(Baseball – Pitcher) Emory University freshman pitcher Matt McMahon was 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA over seven innings pitched during two relief efforts last week. McMahon held Oglethorpe University scoreless over four and a third innings of relief work, giving up just two hits and a walk, and striking out three batters.
(Baseball – Pitcher) Emory University relief pitcher Ryan Orlovsky pitched three and two-thirds shutout innings over the course of three games last week. Orlovsky opened his week with an inning and a third of scoreless relief work during the Eagles’ 8-6 loss to 27th-ranked Maryville College, allowing just one hit and a walk.
(Baseball – Hitter) Emory University senior Patrick Riebsame hit .500 (nine-for-18) with two home runs and seven RBIs over the course of four games last week. During a 10-3 win at Covenant College on Saturday, Riebsame tied a school record with two home runs, en route to a three-for-five performance with three runs scored and five RBIs.
(Baseball – Pitcher) Emory University freshman Ben Hinojosa threw the first complete game by an Eagles’ pitcher in four seasons, leading the team to a 7-2 victory over Hendrix College. The right-handed pitcher held the Warriors scoreless on two hits and a walk through eight innings.
(Baseball – Hitter) Emory University first baseman Ryan Jones hit .615 (eight-for-13) with four doubles, four RBIs and four runs scored during three games last week. During a 13-6 win at eighth-ranked Birmingham Southern College on Wednesday, Jones went two-for-five with two runs scored, an RBI and a double.
(Baseball – Hitter) Emory University sophomore Daniel Iturrey hit .500 (seven-for-14) with three triples, five runs batted in, two runs scored and two stolen bases during five games last week. Iturrey also walked four times during the week, ending the stretch with a .929 slugging percentage and a .611 on base percentage.
(Baseball – Pitcher) Emory University starting pitcher Caleb Long did not allow an earned run on six hits over two starts, both victories, last week. During the two games, Long combined to strike out 11 batters and walk six over 12 and a third innings, while holding opposing hitters to a .158 batting average.
(Baseball – Hitter) Emory University senior Patrick Riebsame batted .538 (seven-for-13) with a home run, two triples, a double and six runs batted in during three games last week. Riebsame kicked off his week with a walk off two run home run to clinch the outright UAA Championship for the Eagles with a 9-8 win.
(Baseball – Pitcher) Emory University junior Paul Schwendel was 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA and 12 strikeouts over seven innings pitched last week. Schwendel earned the victory in his start against Huntingdon College on Saturday, striking out a career-best 10 batters over six innings and allowing just three runs on eight hits and a walk, en route to a 15-3 Emory win.
(Baseball – Pitcher) Emory University sophomore Mike Bitanga did not allow an earned run in seven innings pitched at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Tournament last week, going 1-0 with two saves. Bitanga earned the win in Emory’s 9-8 come-from-behind victory over Washington University (Mo.) with two innings of one hit baseball.
(Baseball – Hitter) Emory University senior Patrick Riebsame hit .435 with eight runs batted in and a tournament-best two home runs during the University Athletic Association (UAA) Tournament last week. One of Riebsame’s two long balls was the walk off two-run home run against Washington University (Mo.) with two outs in the ninth.
(Baseball – Hitter) Emory University designated hitter Jay Page hit .364 (four-for-11) during four games for the Eagles last week. Page went one-for-one with a game-tying three run double against Washington and Lee University, lifting Emory to an 11-10 victory over the Generals on Tuesday.
(Baseball – Pitcher) Emory University pitcher Ryan Toscano allowed one run in four and a third innings of relief work for the Eagles, stretching over a pair of games last week. Making just his second collegiate appearance, Toscano pitched three and a third innings against Washington and Lee University, allowing just one run on three hits and no walks.

(Baseball) Emory University third baseman Andrew Cohn hit .500 with a team-best six runs batted in during a split of a home-and-home series against Oglethorpe University to open the 2011 season. In the season-opening game, a 14-4 Emory victory, Cohn went three-for-four with four RBIs, one run scored and a double.
(Baseball) Emory University senior Chris Monaco earned an opening-day victory for the Eagles, allowing two runs on four hits over five innings pitched during the team’s 14-4 victory. Playing at home against Oglethorpe University, Monaco started the game for Emory, retiring the leadoff batter in each of his five innings of work.
