2009 Emory Men's Soccer Athletes of the Week

    (Soccer – Offense) Emory University freshman Alex Scott scored two key goals for the Eagles in the final weekend of the regular season. Scott scored the game-tying goal in the 84th-minute against Carnegie Mellon University, helping the Eagles to a 2-2 tie against the 11th-ranked team in Division III.

    (Soccer – Defense) Emory University goalkeeper Trenton Spindler helped lead Emory to a 1-0-1 record through two games last weekend. Spindler played all 110 minutes of Emory’s 2-2 tie with #11 Carnegie Mellon University, making a career-high ten saves. The sophomore returned the next day to record his fifth shutout of the season with four saves in a 1-0 win over the University of the South.

    (Soccer – Offense) Emory University’s Jake Graetz scored a pair of goals, including the ‘golden goal’ in overtime, during the Eagles’ 2-1 win over Case Western Reserve University on Sunday. Graetz scored the first goal of the match, giving Emory a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute.

    (Soccer – Offense) Emory University’s Zach Samuels had a hand in all three of the Eagles’ goals during Emory’s 3-2 win over Maryville College on Friday. Samuels helped the Eagles tie the match in the 52nd minute, assisting on the team’s first goal of the game. The sophomore then scored in 57th minute to give Emory a 2-1 lead.

    (Soccer – Offense) Emory University’s Zach Samuels scored the game-winning goal during the Eagles’ 3-0 win over Brandeis University on Sunday. Samuels stole the ball from the opposing player at midfield in the 34th minute of the contest, and then drove past two defenders before notching a goal in the far corner of the net.

    (Soccer – Defense) Emory University’s Trenton Spindler recorded a pair of shutouts during two University Athletic Association (UAA) games last weekend. Spindler recorded two saves during Emory’s scoreless tie with New York University, including one in the second overtime period to preserve the tie.

    (Men’s Soccer – Offense) Emory University’s Kyle O’Brien recorded a goal and an assist against Oglethorpe University last week. O’Brien scored the first goal of the game, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute. He later assisted on the game-winning goal in the 81st minute, breaking a 1-1 tie, en route to a 3-1 victory.

    (Soccer – Offense) Emory University’s Michael Scannapieco scored the game-winning goal during the Eagles’ 1-0 win over Covenant College. Scannapieco scored the goal unassisted in the 74th minute of play to give Emory the win. The score was the first of the season for the junior.

    (Soccer – Defense) Emory University goalkeeper Trenton Spindler recorded his second shutout of the season during the Eagles’ 1-0 win over Covenant College last week. Spindler made eight saves during the contest to record the shutout.

    (Soccer – Offense) Emory University’s Nico Dalton scored his third goal of the season during the Eagles’ 4-1 win over Piedmont College last week. Dalton’s goal, the first of the game, came in the 41st minute of the contest and gave the Eagles a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the way.

    Emory University’s Adam Waxman helped lead an Eagles defense that allowed just one shot to Piedmont College during the team’s 4-1 win last week. Waxman started in the backfield for the Eagles, and held the Lions to one late shot on goal.

    (Soccer - Defense) Emory University defender Nathan McKeever played all 180 minutes in the Eagles’ backfield last weekend, helping the team to a pair of wins. McKeever played all 90 minutes of the Eagles’ 4-0 shutout victory over Greensboro College on Saturday. The sophomore returned the next day to play the entirety of Emory’s 2-1 win over Guilford College.

    (Soccer - Offense) Emory University freshman Kyle O’Brien had a hand in both goals during the Eagles’ 2-1 win over Guilford College on Sunday. O’Brien assisted on the first goal of the contest in the fifth minute, and then converted the game-winning goal in the 67th-minute. He took two shots during the game, both of which were on goal.

    (Soccer - Offense) Emory University midfielder Christopher Howie assisted on a pair of goals during the Eagles’ 2-0-0 week. Howie picked up both of his assists during Emory’s 2-0 win over Eastern Mennonite University on Sunday, including one on the eventual game-winning goal.

    Emory University's Jake Graetz was named the Most Valuable Player of the Sonny Carter Invitational, scoring two goals during the Eagles first two games of the season last week. Graetz scored the first goal of the game in Emory's 6-1 win over the University of the Ozarks, as the junior scored off a crossing pass from teammate Nate Wise.

    Emory freshman defender Andrew Natalino scored a goal, and helped the Eagles hold opponents to just two goals during the 126 minutes he played during the team's first two games of the season. Natalino scored the game-winning goal, the first of his career, during the Eagles' 6-1 win over the University of the Ozarks.
