    Emory University junior Gabrielle Clark led the Eagles to a second-place finish in the team tournament, and finished in the semifinals of both the individual singles and doubles draws during the 2013 NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championships in Kalamazoo, Michigan last week. She finished the week with a total record of 4-1 in singles play and 5-1 in doubles action. During the team championships, Clark teamed with Sullivan to go undefeated in three matches at first doubles (all against NCAA Doubles Tournament selections), and won her only singles match that was decided, a 7-6 (5), 6-3 win during the Eagles’ semifinal win against #1 Amherst. In the singles tournament, Clark, the third-overall seed, won her first three matches in straight sets, before falling in the semifinals to the top-seeded player in the draw. She and Sullivan also made up the second-seeded doubles team, earning a pair of straight-set wins in the early rounds before falling in the semifinals to the third-seeded team. Clark finished the season with a 30-7 record in singles play (tied for the second-most wins in a single season in school history) and 28-7 in doubles action. In addition, she ended her junior season with 84 career singles wins, the third-most in school history, and 86 career doubles victories, the fifth-most in school history. Clark earned all-America honors in both doubles and singles play for the third-straight season in 2013.

    Emory University junior Gabrielle Clark was perfect in both singles and doubles play for the fourth-ranked Eagles last weekend, helping the squad advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championships. After a first-round bye, Clark led the Eagles to a 5-0 win over 21st-ranked Trinity University (Texas) on Saturday, claiming an 8-4 first doubles win with Annette Sullivan, and defeated Thavindra Ekanayake 6-2, 6-0 in the first singles match. She followed that performance with an 8-3 first doubles win and a 6-1, 6-2, team-victory clinching win at first singles against Sewanee’s Bronte Goodhue, as the Eagles defeated the Tigers 5-0 in the round of 16 on Sunday. Clark is now 26-6 in singles action and 23-6 in doubles matches this season. In addition, she earned the 80th singles victory of her career on Sunday to move into sole possession of fourth-place in school history. Clark and the Eagles, now 16-4 this season, will take on sixth-ranked Middlebury College in the quarterfinals on May 20th.

    Emory University senior Jordan Wylie led the fourth-ranked Eagles to a 9-0 win over 16th-ranked Washington and Lee University on Saturday. Wylie, teamed with freshman Madison Gordon, won the first doubles match in the contest by an 8-2 score over the Generals’ Meghan Buell and Chelsea Mixson. She followed that with a straight-set 6-1, 6-1 win over Claire Cahill in the second singles match. Wylie improved to 14-11 in singles matches and to 13-6 in doubles action this season with the victories. In addition, her 69 career singles victories moved her into a tie for 16th-place in school history in the category. Wylie’ performance this season has helped the Eagles notch a 14-4 record during the spring season.

    Emory University junior Gabrielle Clark led the third-ranked Eagles to their 24th University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship in 26 years, with a perfect record as Emory’s first singles and first doubles player (teaming with freshman Annette Sullivan) during the conference tournament in Altamonte Spring, Florida last weekend. During Thursday’s 9-0 win over New York University, Clark earned an 8-3 win in doubles action and a 6-1, 6-1 win in singles play. In a 9-0 win over seventh-ranked Chicago on Friday, Clark defeated the top-ranked doubles team in the Central Region 8-3, and then downed the region’s top-ranked singles player in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. In the UAA Championship match on Saturday, the junior bested the Atlantic South’s fourth-ranked doubles pairing 8-1, and the third-ranked singles player 6-4, 6-0, leading Emory to a 9-0 win over 13th-ranked Carnegie Mellon. Clark, the top-ranked singles player in the Atlantic South Region, improved to 24-6 this season, and to 21-6 in doubles action, including a 12-3 mark with Sullivan, with whom she is the third-ranked pairing in the region. Clark also moved into a tie for fifth-place in Emory history with 78 career singles wins, and seventh-place with 79 career doubles victories. Clark and the Eagles improved to 13-4 this season with the three victories.

    Emory University freshman Beatrice Rosen was a perfect 3-0 in singles play during three road matches against Division III squads ranked nationally in the top-10 last weekend. On Friday, Rosen led the Eagles to a 7-2 win over ninth-ranked Middlebury College, winning the third singles match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. She followed that performance with a 6-3, 6-0 win over her third-singles counterpart on Saturday, helping Emory defeat eighth-ranked Bowdoin College 8-1. Moving up to second singles on Sunday, she defeated Williams’ Rebecca Curran, the 16th-ranked player in the Northeast Region, 7-5, 6-2, in a 6-3 Emory loss to the fifth-ranked Ephs. Rosen, ranked 12th in Division III, has now won eight-straight singles matches and stands at 16-6 during her inaugural campaign with Emory. With her help, the Eagles, ranked third in Division III, stand at 10-4 this season.

    Emory University junior Gabrielle Clark was a perfect 4-0 in first singles matches and 3-1 in first doubles action with freshman partner Annette Sullivan, helping the fourth-ranked Eagles to wins over three nationally-ranked teams last week, including an upset win over Division III’s top-ranked squad. During Emory’s 9-0 win over 16th-ranked Tufts University on Tuesday, Clark earned an 8-5 doubles triumph over the seventh-ranked pairing in the Northeast Region, and claimed a 6-3, 6-3 win over the 21st-ranked player in the region in singles. On Friday against second-ranked Amherst, she bounced back from an 8-4 doubles loss to defeat the second-ranked player in the Northeast in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, as Emory was edged 5-4 in the match. On Saturday, in a 5-0 win over 12th-ranked Washington University (Mo.), Clark won both her doubles (8-4) and singles (6-0, 6-3) matches. She capped off the week by leading Emory to a 6-3 upset win over top-ranked Johns Hopkins University, claiming an 8-6 doubles win and a dominating 6-0, 6-1 singles victory. With the four singles victories, Clark moved into 10th-place in school history with 73 career wins, and now stands at 19-5 this season. In addition, she is 16-5 for the campaign in doubles matches. Clark and the Eagles improved to 8-3 overall this season with the three victories.

    Emory University junior Gabrielle Clark recorded a perfect record in both singles and doubles play during the Eagles’ two matches against Division II schools in Hawaii last week. During the Eagles’ 9-0 win over the University of Hawaii – Hilo on Thursday, Clark won the first singles match over Hilo’s Emelie Laussen in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. The following day, during a rain-shortened match against Hawaii Pacific University, she teamed with Annette Sullivan to win the first doubles match 8-4, and claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win over Celina Goetti in the first singles contest. Clark, the reigning NCAA singles champion and doubles runner-up, now stands at 15-5 in singles play this season and 13-4 in doubles action. Her play during the week helped the fourth-ranked Eagles improve to 5-2 overall this season.

    Emory University junior Jordan Wylie earned wins in both singles and doubles play during the fourth-ranked Eagles victory over Brenau University. Wylie claimed an 8-4 win at second doubles with teammate Madison Gordon over Brenau’s Dominika Jasova and Zalina Nazarova, the 24th-ranked team in the NAIA. Playing out of the second singles spot for the Eagles as well, the two-time all-American defeated Vladica Djurdjevic in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3. Wylie now stands at 8-9 in singles play and 3-3 in doubles matches this season. Aided by Wylie’s effort, the fourth-ranked Eagles defeated Brenau 7-2 to improve to 4-2 on the season.

    Emory University freshman Madison Gordon finished the week with a 2-1 record in singles play, including a win over a Division I opponent. On Sunday, Gordon scored the only point for the Eagles in a 6-1 loss to the Division I University of Alabama – Birmingham, defeating her counterpart 6-3, 6-4 in the sixth singles match. Just a day earlier, she helped Emory to a 6-3 win over the 18th-ranked University of the South with a 6-2, 6-2 sixth singles win. On Wednesday at Columbus State University, the sixth-ranked team in Division II, Gordon suffered an 8-3 loss in the second doubles contest, and dropped a hard fought three-set contest at fifth singles, 4-6, 6-4, 10-8. She is now 7-4 in singles play during the 2012-13 season, and 4-8 in doubles action. Gordon and the fourth-ranked Eagles have opened the 2013 spring season with a 3-2 record.

    Emory University junior Gabrielle Clark claimed victories in both of her matches during the fourth-ranked Eagles' 8-1 win over Shorter College on Wednesday. Clark teamed with freshman Annette Sullivan to defeat Candice Laurent and Aurelie Gaborit 8-5 in the first doubles match. She came back to earn a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Laurent in the first singles contest as well. Clark, the 2012 NCAA Singles Champion, improved to 12-2 in singles matches and to 11-2 in double play during the 2012-13 season, while helping Emory raise its team record to 2-0.

    Emory University freshman Beatrice Rosen helped lead the fourth-ranked Eagles to a 9-0 win over NCAA Division II Clayton State University in the team’s opening match of the 2013 spring season. Rosen, ranked ninth in the Atlantic South Region, was dominant as the Eagles’ third singles player, earning a 6-0, 6-0 win over the Lakers’ Zinnia Leamana, the team’s top-ranked player (13th in the Division II Southeast Region). She teamed will freshman Madison Gordon to earn a victory in the third doubles match as well, as the duo defeated Clayton State’s Charlotte Fabricius and Raluca Pavel 8-5. Rosen improved to 6-4 in singles play and to 3-8 in doubles action this year, as Emory ended a five-match losing streak to Clayton State with the shutout win.

    Emory University junior Gabrielle Clark won the NCAA Division III singles and doubles draws at the ITA Small College Nationals, becoming just the second player in school history to win both tournaments. In the singles draw, top-seeded Clark dropped just three games in her first two matches, defeating Megan Tang of Chicago 6-1, 6-0, and fourth-seeded Meghan Buell of Washington and Lee 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the championship match. In a rematch of last season’s NCAA Championship, Clark came from behind to best second-seeded Lok-Sze Leung of Middlebury in three sets, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. Clark teamed with freshman Emma Taylor to win the doubles draw for the second-straight season, defeating Meg Crowley and Claire Marshall of DePauw 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals, fourth-seeded Rebecca Curran and Kara Shoemaker of Williams 6-7(4), 6-4, 10-8 in the semifinals, and Buell and Claire Cahill of Washington & Lee 6-1, 6-2 in the championship match. Clark joined former Eagle Mary Ellen Gordon as the only two players to sweep both draws at the ITA Small College Nationals. She later fell to Division II opponent Barbora Krtickova of Armstrong Atlantic in the singles draw of the ‘Super Bowl,’ and to Kritckova and Aleksandra Filipovski of Armstrong in the doubles draw.

    Emory University freshman Emma Taylor teamed with Gabrielle Clark to win the doubles draw at the ITA Small College Nationals last weekend. After a straight set (6-3, 6-4) win over Meg Crowley and Claire Marshall of DePauw in the quarterfinals, the top-seeded duo from Emory battled to a 6-7(4), 6-4, 10-8 victory over fourth-seeded Rebecca Curran and Kara Shoemaker of Williams College in the semifinals. In the Division III Championship Match, Clark and Taylor earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Meghan Buell and Claire Cahill of Washington & Lee University. Taylor and Clark’s fall season came to an end in the semifinals of the ‘Super Bowl,’ as the duo fell to Barbora Krtickova and Aleksandra Filipovski of Division II Atlantic Armstrong State College, 6-2, 6-2. Taylor became part of the third duo in the program’s history to win the NCAA Division III doubles draw at the ITA Small College Nationals, and the first freshman to accomplish the feat.

    Emory University junior Gabrielle Clark won the singles draw at the 2012 USTA/ITA Fall South Regional, and later teamed with freshman Emma Taylor to win the doubles draw as well. Clark, the reigning NCAA Singles Champion, won all five of her singles matches during the weekend (improving to 7-1 overall this season), including a 6-3, 6-2 win over teammate and second seed Jordan Wylie in the championship match. In doubles play, Clark and Taylor (seeded second in the draw) went 4-0, including a 6-4, 6-2 win over fourth-seeded Anne Garland and Lindsey Liles from Sewanee in the championship match. The duo improved to 6-1 together in doubles play this season. Clark became just the second player in the program’s history, along with former Eagle Lorne McManigle, to win both the ITA Regional Singles and Doubles Draw in back-to-back years. Clark and Taylor will advance to the ITA Small College Nationals in Mobile, AL, starting on October 11th.
