Peacock Hits Third HR in 14-2 Emory Rout of Rochester

Emory University junior center fielder Wes Peacock went four-for-four with five RBIs, including his third home run of the season, and freshman pitcher Hans Hansen limited Rochester College (Mich.) to one hit over five shutout innings, as the Eagles went on to defeat the Warriors 14-2 at Chappell Park on Sunday afternoon.

After allowing a leadoff single, Hansen went on to retire the next 15 batters in order, earning the win to improve to 3-0 on the season with a 4.09 ERA.  The righty struck out three in the game, while failing to walk a batter, and has not issued a walk through his first 22 collegiate innings of work.

The Eagles got off to a quick start, scoring four runs in the first inning on an RBI double from junior left fielder Brett Lake, and a bases-loaded double from Jared Welch that scored all three runners.  Emory then blew the game open with a six run third inning, which included Peacock's three-run home run.  Peacock added an RBI double as part of a two-run fourth inning for Emory, and an RBI single in a two-run fifth frame, to cap off the scoring on the day for the squad.

Peacock fell a triple short of the cycle with his performance, adding on three runs scored during the game.  He is now batting .380 this season, and is tied for the team lead with 20 runs batted in.

Welch finished the day three-for-three with three RBIs, a double and a run scored, while senior designated hitter Daniel Iturrey went two-for-two with two walks, three runs scored, an RBI, a double and a stolen base.  Senior right fielder Brandon Hannon was two-for-three with two runs and an RBI, and Lake added a one-for-three day with an RBI, three runs and a walk.

Emory Head Coach Mike Twardoski used 23 total players in the game for the second-straight day, including freshman Wilson Morgan, who picked up a hit in his first collegiate at bat in the seventh inning.

Emory pitchers held the Warriors to just four hits in the game, including scoreless relief appearances of an inning each from junior Michael Byman in the seventh and senior Mike Bitanga in the eighth.

Starting pitcher Billy Eller took the loss for Rochester, which fell to 0-2 on the campaign.

Emory will have its final game before the 2014 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, playing at Oglethorpe University at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, March 5th.
