Hansen Equals Freshman Win Record in 13-7 Triumph at Huntingdon

Emory University pitcher Hans Hansen pitched six solid innings to lead the Eagles to a 13-7 win at Huntingdon College on Saturday, picking up his eighth victory of the season and matching the record for wins by a freshman in program history in the process.

Hansen scattered eight hits and allowed a pair of runs over his six innings of work, striking out five batters.  He is now 8-1 with a 2.63 ERA this season, and matched Connor Dillman's freshman win record, set during the 2012 campaign.

Emory jumped out to a 10-0 lead after five innings of play, before Huntingdon scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Eagles' lead to eight.  The runs ended a streak of 37 1/3 innings against Division III opposition without an earned run allowed.

Emory added two runs in the seventh and one in the ninth to push its advantage to 13-2.  The Hawks attempted a late comeback, scoring five runs off the Emory bullpen in the bottom of the ninth, but the Eagles were able to hold on for the win.

Senior Daniel Iturrey led Emory at the plate with a three-for-five performance and three RBIs.  Junior Brett Lake and seniors Jared Welch and Ryan Toscano each had two RBI days, while seniors Jared Kahn and Brandon Hannon each had three hits, with Kahn scoring three runs, and Hannon a pair.  27 total players saw action in the game for Emory, which collected 18 hits in the contest.

Lake's two RBIs pushed his season total to 57, six behind the program's single-season record.

Emory improved to 27-10 with the win, while Huntingdon dropped to 21-16 with the setback.  Starting pitcher Joseph Fincher took the loss for the Hawks, falling to 5-4 for the campaign.

The two teams will wrap-up the series and the regular season tomorrow, when the Eagles will return to Chappell Park to host the Hawks at 2:00 PM.
