2014 Emory Women's Soccer Athletes of the Week

    Emory University senior forward Emily Feldman scored the game-winning goal during the 24th-ranked Eagles’ 1-0 upset win at fourth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University in the team’s regular season finale. Feldman scored unassisted in the 70th minute of play, breaking a scoreless tie against the ninth-ranked Division III defense with her team-leading seventh goal of the season, and her third game-winning goal of the campaign. She ended the regular season tied for the University Athletic Association (UAA) lead with two game-winning goals in conference play, and second among all UAA players with four goals and nine points in conference games. In addition, her 27 career goals are the seventh most in Emory history. Feldman and the Eagles ended the regular season with an 11-1-6 mark, including a 2-1-4 UAA ledger, good for a fourth-place finish in the conference.

    Emory University junior goalkeeper Liz Arnold recorded her seventh individual shutout of the season on Saturday, leading the 24th-ranked Eagles to a 1-0 upset win over fourth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University in their regular-season finale. Arnold made four saves in the game and faced nine total shots from the Tartans, en route to the clean sheet. She wrapped up the regular season with a 0.46 goals-against average, a .862 save percentage and a 9-1-6 overall record. Arnold and the Eagles finished fourth in the conference with a 2-1-4 record, and ended the 2014 regular season with an 11-1-6 overall ledger.

    Emory University junior Ally Peterson helped guide the 21st-ranked Eagles to three shutouts in as many games, including a pair in University Athletic Association (UAA) contests. The center back was the only Eagle to play all 290 minutes of action during the week, helping to limit the Eagles’ three opponents to a combined 21 shots and 10 shots on goal. On Wednesday against Birmingham-Southern College, Peterson helped restrict the Panthers to just eight shots, with only four on goal, leading Emory to a 2-0 win. During Friday’s 0-0 double-overtime tie with the University of Rochester, she held the opponents to just eight shots and four shots on goal once again. Capping off the weekend, Peterson limited Case Western Reserve University to five shots, with just a pair on target. Peterson is the only player to have started every game for the Eagles this season, helping the defense record a 0.43 goals-against average and 10 shutouts. Emory, 10-1-6 overall this season, is tied for fourth-place in the UAA with a 1-1-4 conference record.

    Emory University sophomore Cristina Ramirez scored two goals and assisted on another over three games for the 21st-ranked Eagles last week. Ramirez totaled 134 minutes of action, taking seven shots, four of which were on goal. She started and played 71 minutes during the Eagles’ 2-0 win over Birmingham-Southern College on Wednesday, assisting on the second goal of the game in the 56th minute. On Friday, the forward came off the bench to log 42 minutes, taking one shot in the game. Ramirez capped off her week on Sunday with her first career two-goal game, scoring in the 45th and the 90th minutes to give the Eagles a 3-0 win over Case Western Reserve University. She leads all Emory players this season with 16 points, coming on five goals and six assists. Ramirez and the Eagles improved to 10-1-6 overall, and are tied for fourth place in the University Athletic Association (UAA) with a 1-1-4 conference record.

    Emory University freshman Emily Franty scored the first two goals of her collegiate career during the 19th-ranked Eagles’ 9-0 win at LaGrange College on Wednesday. Franty scored her first goal in the 64th minute of the contest off an assist from Chloe Donegan, and followed that just five minutes later with her second goal, coming off an assist from Lindsey Wilson. She came off the bench in the game to play 37 minutes in the game, leading all players with seven shots and five shots on goal. Franty and the Eagles improved to 8-1-5 on the season with the win.

    Emory University junior Jordan Morell helped the 19th-ranked Eagles record their seventh shutout of the season with a 9-0 victory at LaGrange College on Wednesday. Making just her second career start at center back, Morell played all 90 minutes in the game, helping to hold the Panthers to just one off-target shot. She has played in all 14 games this season for the Eagles, including three in a starting role, and has assisted on three goals. Morell and the Eagles improved to 8-1-5 on the year with the win.

    Emory University freshman Melinda Altamore scored a goal for the ninth-ranked Eagles during the team’s 1-1 double-overtime tie against Brandeis University on Sunday. Altamore scored with just over 40 seconds left in the first half, launching a perfectly-placed shot from approximately 35 yards. It the second goal of the year for the midfielder, who now has five points this year. Altamore also took a pair of shots during the Eagles’ 1-1 double-overtime tie at New York University on Friday, including one on goal. Emory is now 7-1-5 during the 2014 season, including an 0-1-3 record in University Athletic Association (UAA) games.

    Emory University senior Karina Rodriguez scored a pair of goals over two games for the fifth-ranked Eagles last week. On Tuesday, Rodriguez scored the game-winning goal on a header in the 52nd minute in the Eagles’ 2-0 victory over Covenant College. In a conference matchup on Saturday against the 14th-ranked University of Chicago, the forward cut the visitors’ lead in half with a goal in the 69th minute, in what was ultimately a 2-1 setback for the Eagles. She totaled five shots in the two games, three of which were on goal. Rodriguez is currently tied for the team lead with four goals this season, and is second on the squad with nine points. With the 1-1-0 record during the week, Emory now stands at 7-1-3 overall for the season, including a 0-1-1 mark in UAA games.

    Emory University junior goalkeeper Liz Arnold made a career-high eight saves during the fifth-ranked Eagles 1-1 double-overtime tie at top-ranked Washington University (Mo.) on Sunday. Arnold played all 110 minutes of the game, allowing just one first half goal to the Bears, who entered the game as the 36th-ranked offensive in Division III. The eight stops passed her previous career high of seven saves in a game, set twice during her career. For the season, Arnold is 6-0-3 with four shutouts, a 0.41 goals-against average and a .882 save percentage. The Eagles remained one of eight undefeated teams in Division III with a 6-0-3 overall record, including a 0-0-1 mark in UAA play.

    Emory University senior forward Emily Feldman scored the team’s only goal during the fifth-ranked Eagles’ 1-1 double-overtime tie with top-ranked Washington University (Mo.) on Sunday. Feldman scored with a header in the 14th minute, responding to a Washington goal just 35 seconds prior, and tying the game at a goal apiece. The goal was just the second scored against the Bears this season, who entered the game as the top-ranked defense in Division III. Feldman played 81 minutes in the game, leading all Eagles with five shots, including three on goal. The score was her team-leading fourth of the season, and she is tied for the team lead with nine points in 2014. Feldman and the Eagles are one of the eight remaining undefeated squads in Division III this season, moving to 6-0-3 with the conference-opening tie.

    Emory University senior Emily Feldman scored her second career ‘golden goal’ on Sunday to lift the Eagles to a 1-0 double-overtime win at regionally-ranked Centre College. Feldman struck for her team-leading third goal of the season with just 55 seconds left in the second overtime, taking a pass from Meredith Doherty and sending a shot past the keeper and into the net for the deciding score. The forward played 64 minutes in the game, leading all players with six shots, including three on goal. The previous day, she took a game-high seven shots, including five on goal, during a 3-0 win over Transylvania University. Feldman among all Eagles this season with seven points, coming on three goals and one assist, including one game-winning goal. Her efforts this year have helped the Eagles win five-straight games to improve to 6-0-2 overall.

    Emory University junior Liz Arnold recorded a pair of shutouts in goal, leading the fifth-ranked Eagles to a pair of road wins. Arnold played a combined 199 minutes and five seconds during the week, making eight saves without yielding a goal. On Saturday, the goalkeeper played all 90 minutes in a 3-0 win over Transylvania University, turning away the only shot on goal she faced. She followed that by matching her career-high with seven saves in a 1-0 double overtime win against Centre College on Sunday, including five overtime saves and three in the second-overtime period alone. For the year, Arnold is 6-0-2 with four individual shutouts, a 0.36 goals-against average and a .880 save percentage. In addition, she moved into sole possession of fifth-place in school history with 10 career shutouts. Arnold and the Eagles remained one of the eight undefeated teams in Division III with a 6-0-2 overall record in 2014.

    Emory University junior goalkeeper Liz Arnold held opponents to just one goal in a pair of wins for the sixth-ranked Eagles last weekend at the Woodruff Physical Education Center. Arnold played all 180 minutes over the two games, combining to make five saves and recording a .833 save percentage. She picked up her second individual shutout of the season on Saturday afternoon, making three saves in a 3-0 win over Berry College. The team co-captain followed that performance by making a pair of saves in a 3-1 victory against regionally-ranked Capital University on Sunday. Arnold has started all six games for Emory this season, notching a goals-against average of 0.48 and a save percentage of .824. Arnold and the Eagles have won three-straight games, and stand undefeated in 2014 with a 4-0-2 overall record.

    Emory University senior Karina Rodriguez scored a pair of goals on Sunday afternoon to lead the sixth-ranked Eagles to a 3-1 win over Capital University. Rodriguez started and played 47 minutes in the game, getting the Eagles on the board in the 12th minute, and scoring a key insurance goal in the 72nd minute to give Emory a 3-1 advantage it would hold on to the remainder of the game. The forward led all players in the game with three shots on goal, and tied for the game lead with four total shots. Sunday’s performance marked the third multiple goal game of Rodriguez’s career, and she is now tied for second on the team with five points (two goals and an assist) this season. The Eagles have won three-straight games, and are undefeated in 2014 with a 4-0-2 record.

    Emory University senior Claudia Rowe led the seventh-ranked Eagles to a 4-0 win over the regionally-ranked University of the South on Sunday with a career-best two-goal performance in the game. Seeing her first action of the season, Rowe played 53 minutes at midfield for Emory during the game. She scored her first goal on a header off a corner kick in the 36th minute of play, giving the Eagles a 2-0 advantage. In the second half, she capped off the Eagles’ scoring with a goal in the 65th minute, deflecting a shot from Bailey Plummer into the net to push Emory’s lead to four goals. Rowe leads all Emory players with in goals scored this season, and is tied for the team lead in points. Rowe and the Eagles remained undefeated in 2014 with a 2-0-2 overall record.

    Emory University sophomore Bailey Plummer keyed a defensive effort that led to a 4-0 shutout win over the regionally-ranked University of the South on Sunday, while also assisting on a pair of goals for the seventh-ranked Eagles. Plummer played all 90 minutes at center back in the game, limiting the Tigers to seven shots and four shots on goal. Both of her assists came in the second half of the game, one on a Kaitlyn Dorka goal in the 58th minute, and the other on a Claudia Rowe strike in the 65th minute. Plummer has played almost every minute for the Emory defense this season, helping the squad record a pair of shutouts and a 0.45 goals-against average in four games. The Eagles improved to 2-0-2 on the season with the win.

    Emory University senior Emily Feldman scored the team’s only goal during the seventh-ranked Eagles 1-1 double-overtime tie with top-ranked Trinity University (Tex.). Feldman struck in the 18th minute of action, beating the Trinity keeper to a long ball forward and placing it into the back of the net for her first goal of the season. The forward started and played 74 minutes in the game, taking a game-high three shots, including the one on goal. The goal was the 21st of Feldman's career, tying her for the ninth-most in school history, and her 54 career points are tied for the 14th-most in the program's history. Feldman and the Eagles have opened the 2014 season with a 1-0-2 record.

    Emory University junior Liz Arnold helped lead the seventh-ranked Eagles to a 1-1 double-overtime tie against top-ranked Trinity University (Tex.) on Friday night. Arnold played all 110 minutes in goal, making a pair of saves and yielding just one score to the third-highest scoring offense in Division III last season. One of her two saves came in the final 30 seconds of the first overtime on a point-blank attempt by the Tigers’ forward, keeping the game knotted at a goal apiece. Arnold has played all 310 minutes in goal for the Eagles this season, making five saves and recording a 0.58 goals-against average. Arnold and the Eagles have opened the 2014 season with a 1-0-2 record.

    Emory University sophomore center back Hannah Meyer helped lead Emory to a 1-0-1 record at the Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists Classic, playing all 200 minutes for the 11th-ranked Eagles defense. Meyer and the Eagles’ backline yielded just one goal during the two games for a goals-against average of 0.45, limiting the opposition to a combined four shots on goal and ten total shots. During Saturday’s 2-0 shutout win over host Virginia Wesleyan College, the reigning University Athletic Association (UAA) Rookie of the Year scored the game-winning goal in the 16th minute (the first goal of her career), and led an Emory backline that held the Marlins to just four shots, none of which were on goal. The previous day, during a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Christopher Newport University, Meyer helped hold the Captains to six shots, four of which were on goal.

On Friday, during the Eagles’ 1-1 tie with Christopher Newport University, Ramirez scored the Eagles’ only goal of the contest, equalizing the score in the 43rd minute of play. On Saturday, during a 2-0 win over host Virginia Wesleyan College, the forward assisted on a key insurance goal in the 79th minute.
